Janet L. Chestnut grew up in western Kansas, a third-generation descendant of homesteaders. She has also lived in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Alabama, and North Carolina. She captured her love of the Midwest landscape in paintings, and then the story idea of Edna Miller, The Weather Lady, was conceived during a Wisconsin snowstorm before Christmas.

Joe Carter is the narrator of the unpublished Weather Lady short story collection. As Joe recalls growing up as a farm kid in the 1960s, he recognizes the influence of Edna Miller and her call-in radio show to talk about the weather. Heartwarming and humorous, Joe’s stories remind us of those unique people who shape our hometowns into communities.

Janet Chestnut—wife, mom, and grandma—lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
